Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to examine counseling experiences among counselors recovering from drug addiction. Four counselors who received a drug addiction treatment for more than four years were selected. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, and the collected data were analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological method. The analysis yielded 24 central meanings, eight subcategories, and four higher categories. This study provides a new insight into the lived experiences of counselors recovering from drug addiction in Korea and implications for the role of counselors in working with clients with substance abuse or addiction. Limitations of the research were also discussed.
